Tony Gee won the design contract to remove and replace the existing main cable handstrands and posts on the Humber Bridge.

The first phase of the project incorporated the replacement of the crossover rails in the central barrier on the main span of the bridge deck. Previously composed of two sets of long lengths of wire spanning the whole deck, the barrier was altered to incorporate two cuts allowing for lane changes to be implemented and maintenance on the deck to be carried out without disruption to bridge users.

The second phase was the handstrand replacement. Tony Gee was responsible for the temporary works needed to anchor the existing and new cables, as well as lifting up the new cables and putting them into the correct tension before final positioning.
