Full independent check of the successful alternative design for this significant project. The viaduct carries train traffic from West Kowloon into the north western New Territories. The structure is mostly of span by span glued segmental precast concrete construction, although there are some larger spans crossing rivers and other roads which are of balanced cantilever construction. Some parts of the viaduct passed through notoriously difficult ground conditions, where marble is frequently encountered. This area required special design and construction techniques.
